We will be finishing off our topic on forces today! We are going to finish off by looking at magnets-

Watch this video for an explanation on magnets :

Worksheet one
Complete this worksheet, can you tell me whether these magnets will ATTRACT or REPEL each other?
Can you use a magnet in your own house to show this actually happening?

Worksheet two
Fill in the blanks, if you get stuck re-watch the video and look at the words in the word bank.
Think about what sticks to a magnet and what doesn’t - for the items that do stick to the magnet, what are they made from? Think about this when you make your predictions for this magnetic experiment!

New Topic
When finished these tasks.. we are going to move onto a topic I know you all asked for when in class.. HARRY POTTER! We will be basing our topic on the books.

Harry has just been sent to Diagon Alley to collect his things for school. I would like you to recreate the Hogwarts letter that tells Harry the list of things he will need for his second year at school.
Things to remember:
  • Your letter needs to start with Dear Harry Potter.
  • Your list of items should either be bullet pointed (like this list) or numbered.
  • You should think of all the things a wizard might need for school, what books might he need? What could these books be called? Will he need some potion ingredients? Will he need normal school supplies like us?
  • Think about the way you sound when you are writing, remember you are an important member of Hogwarts, you need to sound professional.
  • End your letter with From Professor ________

Transfiguration Lesson - Science
Get your wizarding hats on boys and girls! Because it is time for you FIRST transfiguration lesson!
For this you will need water, a container and a kettle. (please do this experiment ONLY with adult supervision!)
Water as we all know, is a liquid, but water can also become a GAS or it can become SOLID. It changes matter, and matter makes up every single thing on the planet.

Focusing on water, in its liquid state we can freeze it to 0 degrees celsius and what would happen to it?

Can you make a prediction?

If we decided not to freeze the water, but instead heat it up and boil it and it reaches 100 degrees celsius, what would it become?

Can you make a prediction?

Reading comprehension for the transfiguration lesson

This becomes the cycle for water if you boil it to 100 degrees then the water evaporates and becomes a gas, as it cools down below 100 degrees the steam condenses and becomes water again.. and if we freeze it to below 0 degrees we get Ice!

Can you fill in the blanks on the worksheet, remember that all the answers you need are in your word bank and also in the explanation above!

Have Fun!
