Applications for nursery spaces for 2023/2024 must be completed online at www.fife.gov.uk/earlyyears between
6th – 31st January 2023.
If your child is eligible for funded early learning and childcare, they will begin in nursery at the beginning of the school term following their 3rd Birthday, such as:
- August (the beginning of autumn term)
- January (the beginning of spring term)
- April (the beginning of summer term)

If your child’s 5th birthday falls between 17th August 2023 (the day after the school commencement date) and the end of February 2024 you have a legal right to defer their entry into Primary 1 until August 2024, when they are nearer 6 years old. Previously, only children born in January and February had the automatic right to receive an additional year of funded Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) when they deferred. If this is something that you wish to consider please speak to your childs key worker in Nursery to discuss this option as we will need to ensure the correct information is recorded to ensure a place is kept in Nursery.
