Hello everyone!
We have had a busy term so far in Primary 3- we've gotten off to a running start!
Literacy
In literacy we have looked at different types of connectives - and, but, so, or and because- to see how we can expand our sentences and give more information in our writing. Everyone did amazingly well with this, so now its just about being reminded to make sure we put these into our extended pieces of writing.
For our writing we have finished our descriptive setting story writing and have now moved on to looking at how we create a diary entry and the layout we have to use for this specific style.
Numeracy
We have now looked at our 2,3,5 and 10 times tables and shortly we will be moving on to the 4 times tables before moving on to look at division. The class have been really good at competing against their high scores on Hit The Button (on the TopMarks website) and look forward to starting our multiplication lessons off with this as our warmup. If you have the opportunity, I am sure your child would love to show you how well they can use hit the button to help them with their times tables- you will definitely be impressed!
Topic
We are nearing the end of our Scotland topic, and will be looking at something new and fresh after the February break. We have all had a great time looking at all the aspects of Scotland, especially all the famous people, myths and characters! I think a class favourite has to have been Greyfriars Bobby! We gained a lot of support with reading our burns day poems by learning about the Scots language and how it is quite different to how we all normally talk.
Expressive Arts
During drama we have looked at movement and body language. We have used 'we are going on a bear hunt' to help us with this!
Within art we have focused on colour and shading - looking at primary and secondary colours to make different patterns like Kandinsky's circles. We have looked at how to make different shades with paint, through either using more or less water with water based paints, or by adding white - some of us have felt art has been a bit like science!
For music we have been learning about rhythm and beat which will help us when we are playing the ukulele - which we are all enjoying!
This term has been full of excitement already! I am sure you will have all heard about our 'visitor' from Hogwarts who taught the class about action/reaction through a potions lesson, perhaps there may even be more Hogwarts themed lessons to help us with our learning.
Hope you all enjoy the February break next week!
Looking forward to inviting you all back into the class next month and getting to share our learning further with you at parents evenings.
Thanks for your continued support
Miss Rennie
