Good Morning everyone!
Today is Math Monday, and we are going to take a little look at 'rounding'.
Rounding is when you take a look at a number, and make it easier to work with.
For example, if I were to round 28 to the nearest ten my answer would be 30.
To figure this out I looked at the ones column in 28, it has 8 ones. The rule for rounding is if you have 5 or more in the ones column then you go up to the next ten, and for this example that means the 2 tens becomes 3 tens. When you round to the nearest ten you are being told to make sure your ones column is empty. So the answer is then 30.
If I had to round the number 43 to the nearest ten, I would look at the ones column again. I have 3 ones this time, so I don't have 5 or more ones so I don't need to do anything to my tens column- it stays the same. Remember when you are asked to round to the nearest ten, your ones column needs to be empty, so your answer for this would be 40.
