Hi P6/7,

I hope you got on well with your tasks yesterday and enjoyed getting back to work after the long weekend. Remember that there will be a literacy and numeracy task each day plus the home learning grid which you can dip in and out of, doing the activities you choose.

Please ask if you aren’t sure about something – I’ll be available on Teams and email throughout the day.

Mrs Muir 😊

Numeracy
Groups 1 and 2
Today we are going to focus on improving our multiplication skills further. You coped really well with the multiplication grids last week. This may be a strategy you wish to use today. If you need a reminder, it might be helpful to have a look at last Thursday’s work.

Task 1 – numeracy (four operations)
Firstly, I would like you to try the ‘multiplication word problems’. For these calculations, you will either need to use a grid strategy or set the calculation out in two parts – for instance, if you are multiplying by 15, you could multiply the number by 10 and then the same starting number by 5 as well and then add the two answers together. Make sure that you use your strategies (whichever one suits you best) and that you show your working clearly. If you can’t print the worksheet off, you can copy out the answers in your jotter or on paper.

If you would like a further challenge, you could make your own work card in this style and work out the answers too!

Task 1b – numeracy (four operations)
Next, I want you to spend 20 minutes practising your multiplication skills by learning your times tables (any table which you need to practise).

You could do this by:
  • playing Hit the Button,
  • writing your times tables out,
  • making a poster displaying the different times tables
  • asking someone in the family to ask your questions or
  • using playing cards (take any two cards and multiply them together).
Task 1c – numeracy (four operations)
Finally, have a go at ‘Times Tables Challenge 1’. This should put your practice into action! These quick sessions of tables practice will really help your multiplication skills because you will become quicker and more confident.
