Hi P6/7,

Here we are starting another busy week – week 8 of home learning this term!

I hope you had a lovely weekend and managed to fit in some fun activities with your families. This week’s learning will follow the same format as the last couple of weeks with a home learning grid with different curricular areas and daily numeracy and literacy tasks.

Remember that we will have a class meeting at 10am on Monday morning, some mental maths games on Wednesday at 10am and a quiz on Thursday at 10am.

If you aren’t sure about something, just ask! I’m always happy to answer any questions. I’ll be available on Teams and by email throughout the day.

Happy Monday!

Mrs Muir 😊

Group 3
Today, we are going to continue our focus on mental maths skills. This type of practice will strengthen your times table recall.

Task 1a – mental maths
Your first task is to complete the ‘multiplication wheels’. You must multiply the number on the outside of the wheel by the number in the middle – for example 8 x 2, 7 x 2, 5 x 2 and so on.

These wheels will be a great visual reminder of your times tables so keep them somewhere handy for other tasks during home learning.

If you can’t print these off, don’t worry, you could draw out your own on paper and add in the answers as you go.

Task 1b – mental maths
Next, I would like you to try the ‘Ultimate Times Table Challenge’. If you get really stuck, use your multiplication wheels to help you, but try to complete it without them if you can – this will help you to remember them.

Task 1c – mental maths
Spend 20 minutes practising your times tables (any table which you need to practise).

You could do this by:
  • playing Hit the Button,
  • writing your times tables out,
  • making a poster displaying the different times tables
  • asking someone in the family to ask your questions or
  • using playing cards (take any two cards and multiply them together).
